第九條　日本國民は、正義と秩序を基調とする國際平和を誠實に希求し、國權の發動たる戰爭と、武力による威嚇又は武力の行使は、國際紛爭を解決する手段としては、永久にこれを放棄する。
Article 9.　Aspiring sincerely to an international peace based on justice and order, the Japanese people forever renounce war as a sovereign right of the nation and the threat or use of force as means of settling international disputes.
前項の目的を達するため、陸海空軍その他の戰力は、これを保持しない。國の交戰權は、これを認めない。
In order to accomplish the aim of the preceding paragraph, land, sea, and air forces, as well as other war potential, will never be maintained. The right of belligerency of the state will not be recognized.

「前項の目的を達するために」"In order to"とは詰り｢〜するためには(動機)｣を意味するのであつて、｢〜するための(限定・除外)｣を意味する者では無い。
第九絛の條文を以て自衞隊の保有は限定的乃至は除外的に合憲であると云ふのは明かに誤である。
