shared_ptrは「 further use to automate memory deallocation within an otherwise-manual framework」であって、shared_ptr自体がmanual frameworkだとは言っていないけど？

文章で言うなら、「put to further use to automate memory deallocation」だからmanual frameworkの外にある機能を追加する（=manual frameworkには無い機能）と読むのが自然。
