2015年にオバマ前大統領がスパコン推進プロジェクト「国家戦略コンピューティングイニシアチブ(NSCI*)」を発表。
米エネルギー省が主導し、2021年にエクサ級スパコンを完成させる計画である。
現在、米エネルギー省はAMD、Cray、HPE、IBM、Intel、NVIDIAの計6社に資金援助し、開発を促している。
完成したシステムは、

ハーバード大（ブリガムアンドウィミンズ病院）を出願人とし、
小保方晴子氏を発明者の一人とするSTAP細胞に関する特許出願（特願2015-509109）ですが、
2月20日付で拒絶査定となっていました。リンクから公報を表示し、審査情報照会をクリックすると見ることができます。

過去記事でも書いたとおり、拒絶理由通知の対応では、
STAP細胞のそもそもの意味である多能性をあきらめて「Oct4を発現する細胞を含有する細胞塊を生成する方法」に補正、いわば、
途中経過を特許化しようとされたわけですが、それも認められなかったわけです。

スーパーコンピューターの開発をめぐる助成金詐欺事件を受けて、文部科学省
が所管する独立行政法人は、関連企業に対し、新しいスーパーコンピューターの
開発委託費として無利子で融資していた５２億円の返還を請求しました。

スーパーコンピューターの開発を手がける東京のベンチャー企業「ＰＥＺＹＣｏｍｐｕｔｉｎｇ」の社長らは、
経済産業省が所管するＮＥＤＯ＝新エネルギー・産業技術総合開発機構が交付した助成金をだまし取ったなどとして起訴されています。

これを受けて、文部科学省が所管するＪＳＴ＝科学技術振興機構は、関連企業の
「ＥｘａＳｃａｌｅｒ」に対し、新たなスーパーコンピューターの開発委託費として無利子で融資していた５２億円の返還を請求しました。
ＪＳＴは、これまで事業の継続が可能かどうか検討を続けてきましたが、
最終的に、融資を決定した当初の計画どおりに開発を続けることは難しくなったと判断し、事業を打ち切ることを決めたとしています。
